IM SUPER EXCITED TO TELL YOU THAT I AM ONE OF EIGHT 'COMPETITORS' IN "THE OTHER PAINTING COMPETITION" @ THE AGO'S WESTON FAMILY LEARNING CENTRE.
LIVE PERFORMANCE PAINTING: 7pm - 7am, October 1, 2011 (NUIT BLANCHE!)
Hosted by AGO inaugural Artist-in-Residence Paul Butler with special guests Guy Maddin, Kelly Mark, Valerie Blass, Jason de Haan, The Neil Youngun's and Dean Baldwin Co-Creator: Nicholas Brown.
Robert Dayton, Diana Vander Meulen, Keita Morimoto, David Blackmore, Ian August, Zarah Ackerman, Sojourner Parsons.
"Winnipeg artist Paul Butler hosts an artist-run painting competition where select emerging artists compete against each other. The artists will complete a series of still-life and live model painting challenges designed by six prominent Canadian artists. Adapting the familiar format of the art competition to a model wherein all elements are designed by artists, Butler engages the AGO's new Weston Family Learning Centre by converting the studios into the site of an event that positions competition as both educational and entertaining. Chosen by audience vote, the winner of the 12 hour painting challenge will win the grand prize of a solo exhibition at The Museum of Contemporary Canadian Art's media space. The Other Painting Competition furthers Butler's belief that artist-organized projects serve to challenge arts institutions."
